KONUŞMACI: Prof. Dr. Derek M. Hirst
Professor Dr. Derek M. Hirst held his first teaching position at Cambridge University, and went to Washington University in St Louis in 1975, where he is currently William Eliot Smith Professor of History; he chaired the History Department there from 1998-2004 and again in 2007. He has written several books and many articles on seventeenth-century English history, and is currently writing a book for Oxford University Press (completion due in 2011) on the establishment of English hegemony over Ireland, Wales, and Scotland in the 16th and 17th centuries. He has also been engaged in interdisciplinary teaching and writing about English Literature and History for many years, is co-editor of the forthcoming Cambridge Companion to Andrew Marvell (Cambridge University Press, 2010), and is co-author of a major study, Andrew Marvell, Orphan of the Hurricane, which is currently under review with Oxford University Press. He has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities
